Combined Ajax and Superior oil and gas equipment brand of Cooper Industries, manufactured in Springfield, Ohio (1986–2001). Ajax brand (origin: Ajax Iron Works, 1877) produced integral gas engine-compressors and vertical plunger pumps for oil/gas production, water-flood injection, and enhanced oil recovery. Superior brand produced slow-speed horizontal gas engines and reciprocating compressors for gas gathering, pipeline transmission, and power generation. Brand lines now operated by Cooper Machinery Services (Houston, TX). Products: integral engine-compressors (DPC-2201, DPC-2202, DPC-2801, DPC-2802, DPC-2803, DPC-2804; 147–845 hp, up to 5500 psi), vertical plunger pumps (T-125, T-150, T-360, Q-250, Q-300, Q-600; 125–600 hp triplex and quintuplex), separable compressors (C-202, C-302), Superior gas engines (20–2650 hp).
